Designed, supplied, and commissioned by our partner Aglo, the impressive RGB-TW Casambi lighting control retrofit project at The Star Gold Coast Events Centre is an example of how Casambi can transform a space.

With three key areas – the vast event gala space, entry gallery and meeting/conference rooms – the space featured an existing installation from over 40 years ago.

The challenge

Given the number of personnel managing lighting across different zones, a decentralised, multi-point control system was critical.

The solution?

Aglo’s Casambi solution addressed this need perfectly. In total, 436 Casambi nodes were deployed across the site.

Aglo delivered a revitalised, future-ready event venue that merges aesthetic lighting with intelligent control. The result is a dynamic, user-friendly lighting environment that empowers staff with the flexibility to customise lighting according to the exact needs of any event while maintaining energy efficiency and operational ease.

Smart lighting refresh for the gallery and meeting rooms

The two remaining areas of the project required updating of the existing fluorescent downlights to be dimmable LED with control. The client also requested to be able to set various modes of light depending on what event was being held and set night and cleaning modes for energy efficiency.

The product solution was Mondolux Baza downlights, coupled with optional trim expansion ring accessories, provided an excellent retrofit, with minimal glare, high efficiency, and an elevated, premium aesthetic. Mondolux Catania Maxi spotlights also provide general and accent lighting in the entry gallery and Mondolux Sorrento Tiny downlights were used in corridors, matching the same aesthetic as their larger cousins in the Event Gala space.

All fixtures were integrated with Casambi-compatible drivers. Control in the Meeting Rooms is achieved via Casambi Xpress remote units, featuring customised overlays laser, with four programmable buttons for controlling scenes, individual luminaires, or groups.

Aglo created an impressive, rejuvenated event space that reflects a more modern concept. Casambi provides The Star Gold Coast with a versatile and flexible control system allowing staff the creativity to adapt the lighting according to the event preferences.

1. Full Dimmability

Smooth dimming via the Casambi app using the intuitive dimmer slider.

2. Tuneable White

Colour temperature adjustment via simple finger gestures on the Casambi app or Wall Controller.

3. RGB Control

Full spectrum colour control (RGB/CIE-xy colour adjustability) using the CIE Chart Wheel in the Casambi app.

4. Luminaire Grouping

The venue can be divided into 9 zones, each controllable individually or collectively.

5. Scene-Setting & Control

Over 100 scenes were programmed with only key scenes visible to maintain a clean and intuitive user interface.

6. Full control

Staff can tailor lighting to match event needs, such as dimming or switching lights off during presentations to avoid impacts to screen visibility.

7. Flexibility & Futureproofing

Casambi supports integration with any luminaire, sensor, or switch, ensuring a robust and futureproof wireless control infrastructure.
