A technicolour crown for the Gold Coast’s highest point
Located at Level 77 of the iconic Q1 building in Surfers Paradise, SkyPoint Observation Deck offers panoramic views of the Gold Coast, Australia’s highest external building climb, and world-class events. With 360-degree views, a bistro/bar, a restaurant, and cafe, it is one of the Gold Coast’s most unique and thrilling attractions.
Aglo worked closely with the client to design, develop and supply a lighting upgrade solution to the outdated existing DMX infrastructure. The existing lighting was limited to fixed scenes and lacked flexibility or colour control, and any updates required costly third-party re-commissioning; the existing wiring made a direct DMX upgrade impractical and expensive.

The Solution
The perfect solution was a new fully integrated Casambi Wireless ecosystem, delivering a fully flexible, scalable, and intuitive lighting system. Through Casambi’s interface, the SkyPoint team can now program timed operations, seamless scene transitions, and dynamic RGBW effects.
Aglo paired this control system with high-performance linear RGBW luminaires with integrated Casambi Wireless RGBW dimming/control functionality, which were specially developed by their in-house team. This upgrade solution offered far greater functionality and creative control than the outgoing system.
The solution ensured a seamless transition from legacy fittings to cutting-edge lighting, achieved through precision planning, clever pre-commissioning, and technical expertise.
The project required extensive coordination across fabrication, logistics, and commissioning stages. A total of 85 luminaires were replaced, with each luminaire pre-commissioned during mass production to streamline installation and final programming. Final in-situ commissioning was completed by Aglo’s Certified Casambi Commissioning team.
By incorporating Casambi pre-commissioning during mass production, Aglo was able to streamline installation time and minimise impact to the venue’s day-to-day operations. Casambi’s wireless architecture also leveraged the venue’s existing wiring, eliminating the need for costly cabling upgrades or additional DMX cabling.
A flexible, functional & forward-looking result with Casambi
Beyond core functionality, Aglo’s new RGBW Casambi lighting solution enables custom scene programming to support SkyPoint’s busy event calendar, ranging from fixed RGBW combinations, through to timed gradual colour transitions, or even animated, colour-chasing sequences.
This incredible venue can be lit with static RGBW colours, or washed in team colours for sporting Grand Finals, or even lit up in the colours of the Australian Flag for the 2032 Gold Coast Summer Olympics.
